How did I get dragged into the World of Warcraft?

The results of the poll are quite clear, most people start playing because their friends convinced them. And the same goes for me.

I remember it well, a friend of mine wanted to start playing the game so he tells his father (my godfather) to buy it for my birthday and also a copy for himself. This is three years ago now I believe and I'm still playing, although I have taken several big breaks in the meanwhile (one being 6 months).

I can deduct from this that Blizzard seems to be taking the right approach by focusing on existing users with their commercials. It is the existing users they want to keep playing, which means a steady income. It's also the existing players bringing in fresh blood.

Enough about me and my therories, how did you start playing?

I heard a cute girl talk about it in drama class, was enough for me.

But really I had a few friends who played it too, but I was a bit sceptic. Knowing that one of the most popular girls in high school felt comfortable playing it pushed me enough to buy it.

I guess friends are the main selling point.

I actually saw the posters and boxes in the shop and thought it looked neat, so bought it. Haven't regretted it for a second.

    So I voted 'other'.

My friends tried to force it on me for ages, but never felt like buying it. So then I had my birthday and they bought it for me. Had a love-hate relationship with it ever since, but still enjoy it a lot.

My boss was playing it at work and I found it extremely odd, so I asked him about it. He told me it was quite an adult game, unlike the looks of it suggested. He offered me the 10-day free trial and played ever since, although my wife does feel like killing me for it from time to time.

Started playing becourse of my brother playing it. When I started playing NONE of my friends was playing it, but later on they ALL joined (: I've been playing for about 3 years now, without any huge breaks, but I play ALOT less now, of what I used to play.
